“Celda 237” is a thriller that seeks to immerse the audience in the claustrophobic reality of Tommy, a young man who has been kidnapped and abused since the age of 11. The films “Fallen Angels” (1995), “CLIMAX” (2018), and “Gretel & Hansel” (2020) serve as our primary sources of inspiration for cinematography direction.
We chose to use shots with wide-angle lenses close to the characters, allowing the audience to dive into the tense atmosphere experienced by Tommy, our protagonist.
This project, undertaken as one of the final practices at ESCAC, features co-direction of photography by Cristovão Costa and Silvio Malvestio and it is directed by Marta d’Ocon.
